Michigan CPL CLASS Questions
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR A MICHIGAN CPL?
To obtain a Michigan CPL, you must be at least 21 years old, a legal resident of Michigan (or have a residency waiver), and meet specific criminal history and safety training requirements defined by state law.
WHAT DOES THE CERTIFICATION CLASS COVER?
The curriculum includes pistol safety, safe storage, state-specific firearm laws, civil and criminal liabilities, and basic defensive shooting principles inside and outside the home.
IS THERE A SHOOTING QUALIFICATION?
Yes. Michigan law requires a range portion where you demonstrate safe handling and marksmanship proficiency through a supervised course of fire under the direction of an instructor.
WHEN DO I RECEIVE MY COMPLETION CERTIFICATE?
Certificates are issued immediately upon successful completion of both the classroom and range portions of the course, provided all safety and proficiency standards are met.
WHAT ARE THE STEPS AFTER COMPLETING THE CLASS?
You must take your certificate to your local County Clerk’s office to submit your application and pay fees. Following this, you will be fingerprinted by approved agencies.
HOW LONG DOES THE APPROVAL PROCESS TAKE?
Once fingerprints are submitted, the state officially has 45 days to issue your license or a notice of statutory disqualification. The physical license is usually mailed home.
DO YOU OFFER A MICHIGAN CPL RENEWAL CLASS?
Yes. Silver Fox Training offers a focused Michigan CPL renewal class designed to refresh your skills, review current Michigan law, and help you meet the state’s training requirement for renewing your license. Visit our Michigan CPL Renewal page or contact us for upcoming renewal class dates.
